Inle Lake is located in the mountains of Shan State in eastern Myanmar. About 70,000 people live around and on Inle Lake. Most of them are Buddhists. The inhabitants live in traditional houses set on stilts. Wooden or bamboo branches anchored at the bottom of the lake keep the houses above the surface.

Life on the water follows its course, calmly, to the rhythm of the paddle. Cultivated land is an integral part of landscapes. The majority of the inhabitants of the lake live in self-sufficiency thanks to vegetable production. Inle Lake craftsmanship is renowned for the quality of its textile products, made with silk or with lotus flower fiber. Spinning is an essential step in the work of the material, and it is done in a traditional way, using a spinning wheel.
